      Under the direction of the Unit Head the Interlibrary Loan Assistant will:

      -Search bibliographic citations in the library's ILS and discovery systems, Library A-Z List, OCLC, RapidILL, and other sources to fill Virginia Tech patron's requested materials.
      -Retrieve requested materials from Newman Library stacks and update shipping status/checkout using designated software/ILS system.
      -Prepare shipments for print/media materials via UPS/USPS to VT users and other libraries/businesses.
      -Download articles from electronic databases and electronically deliver pdf of articles to customers. Assist downloading entire e-book/chapters of VIVA contracted lendable e-books, delivering to requesting libraries by their preferred delivery method.
      -Process requested material from Library Service facilities and branch libraries; update and send material to the requesting library by their preferred delivery method.
      -Scan requested articles/chapters from print or microfilm materials for VT patrons and other libraries/business; deliver electronically to customer by their preferred delivery method.
      -Provide customer assistance and resolve problems that arise with VT distant education user requested research material.
      -Purchase copyrighted, ahead of print, and embargoed material from CCC Get It Now or Reprints Desk services.
      -Oversee UPS shipping, ensuring shipments are completed by established procedures and time frames

      Required Qualifications

      -Demonstrated work experience in an academic or public library that required electronic searching of materials.
      -Demonstrated knowledge of how print and electronic library resources are arranged.
      -Experience working with the public and customer service; explaining and applying policies and procedures.
      -Demonstrated good problem solving and investigative skills.
      -Good computer and software skills.
      -Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel, in addition to One Drive.
      -Demonstrated good communication and interpersonal skills to communicate correspondences to a diverse community.
      -Demonstrated work experience with accuracy and attention to detail with minimal supervision.

      Preferred Qualifications

      -Interlibrary Loan experience in an academic library preferred.
      -Demonstrated knowledge of library practices/procedures and operations, including knowledge of Library of Congress classification.
      -Experience working with the Koha ILS, OCLC WorldCat, and ILLiad,
      -Working knowledge and experience with academic library e-journal/e-book database resource tools.
      -Knowledge of UPS and USPS shipping procedures
      -Experience working with scanner equipment/software.

      • The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
      • Work Schedule: average of 30 hours per week to be worked between the hours of M-F 7:30am-5pm. Must be able to work school holidays and breaks.
      • Must be able to lift/move 25+lbs.
